BMW Group relies on DRÄXLMAIER in Thailand
As of mid-2019, the DRÄXLMAIER Group will make battery modules for several BMW models for the Asian market at a new site in Thailand. DRÄXLMAIER currently produces electrical and interior systems products at the site in Rayong, Thailand. The new plant in Chonburi will enable DRÄXLMAIER to considerably expand this service.
Batteries for the BMW 5-series, 7-series and X5
The batteries made by DRÄXLMAIER are installed into the plug-in hybrid models of the BMW 5-series, 7-series and X5 at the BMW plant in Rayong. “It’s a great honor to produce the batteries for the BMW Group plant locally in Thailand. Two DRÄXLMAIER teams from Germany and Thailand are currently working hand in hand to attain a successful production start in the project”, said the DRÄXLMAIER Plant Manager in Thailand, Gerhard Irnesberger.
„We’re very pleased to be able to make further progress with our electro-mobility strategy“, said the President of the BMW Group in Thailand, Christian Wiedmann. “Local battery production will enable us to react more favorably to the growing demands on electrified vehicles in the ASEAN markets. At the same time, we are enhancing our BNW Group plant in Rayong that already acts as an export hub in the region for automobile production. Local battery production is an ideal addition to our plant in Rayong, where we assemble four BMW plug-in hybrid models”, Wiedemann continued.
