Dräxlmaier Opens New Production Site in Leipzig

10. March 2014 Leipzig/Vilsbiburg, 26. September 2013. – On September 26, 2013, the Dräxlmaier Group formally opened their new site in the Cargo Transportation Center in the northwest part of Leipzig; in attendance was the Leipzig Oberbürgermeister (Mayor) Burkhard Jung, as well as guests from Porsche Leipzig GmbH. The new site of DMS Dräxlmaier Modulsysteme GmbH, with more than 12,000 square meters of floor space, currently has more than 120 employees, and further personnel increase is planned for the coming year.

“Dräxlmaier in Leipzig – today this is a highly modern site, completely built in close proximity to our customer Porsche, and targeted at the close interaction of logistics processes between the Porsche Leipzig and Dräxlmaier companies,” said Karl Wallner (1st from right) during the formal opening of the new site in the cargo transportation center. In addition to the short distance to the Porsche plant of just barely half a kilometer, the good infrastructural connection to the A9/A14 highway interchange contributed to this site decision, added the executive director for production and logistics for the Dräxlmaier Group. Along with the production capacity expansion, there will not only be an order received for the new Porsche SUV “Macan,” but also the number of employees will increase in 2014.

“The new site for the Dräxlmaier Group, which has been producing in Leipzig for more than five years now, is a milestone in the industrial history of Leipzig,” emphasized Oberbürgermeister Burkhard Jung (2nd from left) at the new company premises.

Dräxlmaier produces cockpits, door panels and center consoles in Leipzig for the Porsche Panamera. In addition to interior components, the automotive supplier also installs the customer-specific wiring harnesses (KSK) for the premium vehicle at the new plant site. The assembly of cockpits and center consoles for the new Porsche Macan will begin shortly.

The Dräxlmaier Group began in Leipzig in 2008, with the business registration of Dräxlmaier Modulsysteme GmbH. In the same year, they were performing final assembly of center consoles, door panels and cockpit modules for the Porsche Panamera. To date, the number of employees has increased to more than 120. When the foundation was laid for the new construction in February 2013 this was also the starting gun for further expansion by the Dräxlmaier Group. The greatest challenge in this was the move from the old site into the new plant, which was built within six months and covers more than 8,800 square meters of production and logistics space: there was only a time window of two weeks available to move all departments, such as production and logistics, as well as management. Moving the entire warehouse was managed in just a single weekend. After the production relaunch at the new location at the beginning of August, the Dräxlmaier Group was again providing their customer Porsche with materials in sequence, this time in increased numbers.

The smooth process of moving and of the construction was made possible by close cooperation with the DELTA Group, metaWerk AG and the Goldbeck Co.
