Fascination with technology during holidays in the workshop

11. September 2024 At the end of the summer holidays, young people were once again able to discover their technical talent at the DRÄXLMAIER Group.

Twelve young people spent a week as guests at the DRÄXLMAIER Group and regional companies as part of the “Holidays in the Workshop” program. The participants designed and built a small solar-powered vehicle themselves. The presentation of the workpieces, including a race, was the grand finale of an exciting technology week.

This year, the DRÄXLMAIER Group invited participants to “Holidays in the Workshop” for the sixth time. The project by the Landshut district in cooperation with the city of Vilsbiburg and regional companies aims to inspire young people between the ages of twelve and 16 to get excited about the world of technology. During the entire project week, the participants worked hard on their solar cars at DRÄXLMAIER in the mornings. In addition, the young people visited a different company in the region every afternoon and were able to gain a wide range of impressions from the world of technology. In addition to DRÄXLMAIER, the companies DELTA, Zollner, the Ostermaier car dealership and the Roten Raben, with whom the young people were able to train and play for an afternoon, also took part.

Great commitment from the young people
The participants had a lot of fun during the project week. "Building the solar car was my favorite part of the holiday program - it was exciting. I would definitely take part in Holidays in the Workshop again," says 13-year-old Nicolas. And Veronika, 14, thinks: "The week offered a great opportunity to get to know a few companies in my region. You get a good insight into the work and the trainees and trainers at DRÄXLMAIER were very nice and helpful."

Your own vehicle from design to the finished model
The young people worked hard every morning from Monday to Thursday at the DRÄXLMAIER Group on their own small solar-powered vehicles - from the first design idea to the draft to the assembly of the individual components and the first driving tests. Under the guidance of the trainers and trainees from DRÄXLMAIER, small solar cars were created that were ready to drive. The grand finale of the holiday program was the presentation of the vehicles on Friday, including a race and award ceremony. The fastest car was awarded prizes, as was the best technical workmanship and the most beautiful design. Nico Zuhmann entered the fastest vehicle, Veronika Reiser won the design prize and Leopold Niedermeier secured the technology prize.

Barbara Gerber, head of international training at DRÄXLMAIER and co-juror for “Holidays in the Workshop”, praised the participants’ great commitment throughout the entire project week. “It is great to see how much joy the young people have in working on their vehicles.”

Promoting technical talent year after year
Vilsbiburg’s First Mayor Sibylle Entwistle, who took part as a juror on the final day, was also impressed by the young people’s results. “Every year I am delighted to see how young people discover their technical talent during Holidays in the Workshop. It is great that DRÄXLMAIER and the other participating companies are making this possible for the sixth time now,” said the mayor.

Harald Fellner from the Landshut district was also impressed by the project week. "Year after year, 'Holidays in the Workshop' promotes young people's enthusiasm for technology. Here, young people can be creative and show their talent on their own workpiece."
