DRÄXLMAIER impresses again with TOP climate commitment

28. February 2023 Interview with Daniel Ostner and Jörg Elsenbach

In a special issue, the news magazine Focus has listed German companies with excellent performance in climate commitment for the second time - among them DRÄXLMAIER. As one of 216 companies, we won the seal "TOP Climate Commitment 2023". This makes DRÄXLMAIER one of the companies in Germany that, according to the Burda publishing house and the "For Our Planet" program, particularly stand out for their climate and environmental protection efforts in the "Automotive and Suppliers" sector.

The top list evaluates the current state of the companies in terms of past and present climate commitment as well as defined goals and plans for the future. The data for the assessment was collected in an extensive process, including a sophisticated online survey. The companies evaluated were analyzed by sustainability experts on the basis of selected criteria and benchmarks.

We had the chance to ask Daniel Ostner, Head of Sustainability, and Prof. Dr. Dr. Jörg Elsenbach, Head of Group Governance, a few questions on this occasion.

What does the award mean for DRÄXLMAIER?
Prof. Dr. Dr. Jörg Elsenbach: The award is a great recognition for our climate commitment, which we have been practicing for many years, and we are very happy about it! It also motivates us to further activities in the area of climate commitment becoming a proven practice for other companies around the world.

Where is still potential for improvement?
Prof. Dr. Dr. Jörg Elsenbach: Our climate protection activities are already in the top quarter of the study, which is an excellent result. Nevertheless, we naturally want to improve continuously. In the "Renewable energies and climate-friendly products" dimension, we will push our sustainable path even more. Expanding our own renewable energy generation and increasing the share of green electricity in total energy use are just two of the few measures.

What's next?
Daniel Ostner: At the end of last year, we added two more key environmental steering targets: By 2029, we want to reduce the environmental impact at our sites. The focus here is on saving fresh water, reducing non-recyclable waste, increasing energy efficiency and further expanding our photovoltaic systems. We also aim to reduce our product emissions. Topics such as ecological product design, short supply routes and circular economy play an important role here. These goals can only be achieved together through cross-functional cooperation. Our colleagues are ready to actively work on this.
