New concepts for the use of sustainable materials
The FSCM project aims to strengthen the recycling system for metals and plastics across the automotive value chain.
As part of the consortium project, DRÄXLMAIER is participating in the development of new procedures for the use of sustainable materials. Research institutions and companies from various industrial sectors are cooperating under the leadership of the BMW Group. The project is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection.
The core of the consortium project "Future Sustainable Car Materials" (FSCM) is to develop innovative process routes and material concepts across large parts of the value chain. The partners aim to reduce the CO2e footprint in the extraction of materials as well as in their processing and recycling by developing sustainable materials.
In accordance with the principle of the circular economy, the aim is to introduce the highest possible proportion of secondary materials into the cycle, which are significantly less CO2e-intensive than primary materials. In addition to the recycling of plastics and metals, the focus is also on new types of bio-based materials.
In the research project, DRÄXLMAIER is also focusing on recycling-friendly component and assembly design ("Design for Recycling"). This means that the process and logistics requirements for disassembly, dismantling and material preparation are already taken into account during product development.
The Catena-X data ecosystem provides the necessary data format for the digital fingerprint of the materials as well as a platform for collaboration.
