Kenaf supply chain

16. January 2020 Showing transparency

The use of raw materials such as kenaf is of interest to the automotive industry since natural materials contribute toward making the vehicle lighter. Our use of renewable resources requires a sustainable supply chain.

In order to assure the sustainable cultivation of  kenaf, a development project was initiated in Bangladesh by DRÄXLMAIER, as the specialist for lightweight construction, together with the BMW Group and the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ GmbH).

The project evaluated the entire supply chain, from cultivation through production, based on ecological and social criteria. Based on this evaluation, measures were defined to make the supply chain more sustainable and more transparent. The project focus was on the education of kenaf farmers, as well as those involved in the local supply chain.
